Stringband Jamboree
A beloved end-of-summer roots-music campout just outside town.
Ask a longtime local about their favorite weekend of the year and a surprising number will name the Subdued Stringband Jamboree. It is a roots-music campout held each August just east of Bellingham — banjos and fiddles, a few thousand friends, and a field full of tents under the stars.
The vibe
Put on by the same folks behind the local all-ages music scene, the Jamboree is equal parts festival and family reunion. Multiple stages, late-night pickin’ circles around the campsites, kids running loose, and a deeply Bellingham mix of bluegrass, folk, and whatever else turns up.
Camping and community
Most people camp for the weekend, which is the whole point — the magic is in the in-between hours, not just the scheduled sets. It is a grassroots, volunteer-driven event with a loyal following that books out fast.
When and where
The Stringband Jamboree happens in mid-August at the Deming Log Show grounds, about twenty minutes east of Bellingham up the Mt Baker Highway. Tickets are limited and go early.
